The Most Stress Related Occupations

Reduce Stress and Have More Energy with The Sedona Method
  • Do you wish there was an easier way to reduce the stress in your life?
  • Do you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep all night because you're too stressed out?
  • Are you tired of medicating yourself to get rid of stress?
  • Do you wish you had more energy to do both the things you enjoy and the things that you’re required to do?
Numerous surveys and studies confirm that occupational pressures and fears are far and away the leading source of stress for American adults.  These pressures and fears have steadily increased over the past few decades. From this information we are ranking the most stress related occupations.

There are huge volumes of statistics to support these findings and it is important to note the source of these findings when evaluating the results. Many statistics can be skewed to meet the demands of the origanization sourcing the studies.

The NIOSH report is an excellent resource that cites the following:

  • 40% of workers reported their job was very or extremely stressful;
  • 25% view their jobs as the number one stressor in their lives;
  • Three fourths of employees believe that workers have more on-the-job stress than a generation ago;
  • 29% of workers felt quite a bit or extremely stressed at work;
  • 26 percent of workers said they were "often or very often burned out or stressed by their work";
  • Job stress is more strongly associated with health complaints than financial or family problems.

Employment in occupations involving exposure to work related threats and violence is a risk factor for depression and stress related disorders in both sexes.

The following table lists those occupations which equal or exceed the rate of 6 on a stress rating scale of 0 to 10 elaborated by the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology.
