Pearl Earrings

My mother does not own a pair of pearl earrings. I was very surprised to discover this and I was very surprised that I did not notice before. Pearl earrings are a staple for a woman's jewelry wardrobe. They are classically elegant and understated, but they are eye-catching. When I asked my mother why she didn?t own a set of pearls, she simply said that they should be given as gifts.

I?m not sure where she got the idea that buying pearls for your self is bad luck. I have heard that getting black onyx for gifts brings bad luck. I find it hard to believe that any jewelry is unlucky. I own one pair of pear earrings. They were a gift and maybe that is why they have stuck with me for so many years. I find the traditional charm and simplicity extremely appealing and I would never part with the classic earrings.

My mother, on the other hand, likes jewelry with a little more spice. She wears a lot of gold and a lot of sparkle. Pearl earrings may seem as if they would vanish under all of Mom?s glitter, but I think that they would be a fine compliment.

Pearl earrings come in many different colors and styles. I have seen lovely peals with a blue or pinkish hue. These pearls can be the perfect compliment to a classic outfit while adding a little color. There are also earrings that dangle. The pearls are often in the shape of a teardrop when worn below the earlobe. What makes the dangling pearl earring so appealing is that it moves, catching the light. A little cast of light along with the small, sweeping motion draws attention to the gem.

The black pearl is a rare, exotic choice for earrings. These gems are often costly, but they are eye-catching. Even a loud jewelry wearer would be happy to add these gems to her earlobes. Black pearls are intoxicating but they retain the classic quality of the traditional pearl.

Some may choose a pair of pearl earrings that have a little sparkle in addition to the pearl?s natural glow. Jewelry designers offer the earrings surrounded by sparkling diamonds or cubic zirconia stones. This added glitter intensifies the classic little pearl. One of the most striking combinations is diamonds and pearls. The hard, stone sparkle of the diamond contrasting with the soft glowing essence of the pearl is breathtaking.

Those of us who can?t run out and pay hundreds of dollars on pearls may want to consider synthetic pearl earrings. I find it nearly impossible to tell the difference between authentic and synthetic pearls. The manufactured pearls carry the same features of the farmed pearls at a fraction of the cost.

The only excuse I can find for a woman not owning a pair of pearl earrings is the superstitious fear of bad luck. The bad luck is only associated to pearls that are bought for your self. It seems as if my mother was dropping a little hint. I think it may be time to buy her some pearl earrings.
